McConhall is a mixed media emerging artist. Their work is influenced by a blend of music and philosophies; art movements ranging from Op Art to Cubism, Dada to religious iconography. It is both lacking in sense of place and yet tied intimately to their experiences of contemporary American geographies—from the rural Pacific coast where they were raised; to the boroughs of New York; to the urban south of Jackson, Nashville and Austin.
An interest in psychology and the nature of perception spurs their artistic process: exploratory rather than outcome-oriented, and ongoing more often than complete. The work references the connection of mind, spirit, and eye through organicism of form and of making. The slow growth of layers, textures, and movement speaks not only to daily experience but is also rooted in the ubiquitous annals of memory, dream states, and personal histories.
